Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Kern County Residents Directory receives, how that limited data is used, and what choices are available. The reference has no account system and does not keep a resident record about a visitor. Search forms and linked government portals are separate services, so the destination shown when a search is submitted controls its own data practices.

Information Sent Directly

A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies the results. Kern County Residents Directory does not keep a copy of that query on its own servers. If you send a message, the contact mailbox receives the details you choose to include and uses them to answer.

Ordinary Technical Logs

The hosting service may record an IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and time stamps as part of normal server operation. Those details can be reviewed in aggregate to find faults and understand broad page use. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics or, where applicable, advertising measurement.

How Limited Data Is Used

Technical information helps operate the pages, resolve errors, measure traffic, and improve the reference. Visitor lists are not sold, and individual user profiles are not built from the ordinary logs described here.

External Portals and Links

Kern County and California records portals, library collections, archives, and sponsored search tools have their own policies. Once a link is followed, the receiving service governs what is submitted there. The Kern public-record request routes and the Assessor property search are examples of custodian-controlled services. The same rule applies to the sponsored results provider, which is not operated by Kern County Residents Directory.

Who May Process It

Hosting and technical support providers may process server logs while keeping the pages available. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above when those tools are used. Information is disclosed when a valid legal process requires it, and otherwise is not shared as a visitor list.

Security and Retention

The pages use an encrypted connection, and technical logs are retained only for the operational purposes described above. There are no visitor accounts, passwords, or resident profiles stored here. No online system can promise absolute security, but access is limited to the functions needed to run the reference.

Visitors Under 18

The reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Kern County Residents Directory does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent personal information, use the Contact page so the limited message data can be reviewed for deletion.

California Privacy Choices

California’s Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, appears in Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq. Depending on the facts, it provides rights to know or access, delete subject to exceptions, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit sensitive-information use, and avoid discrimination for exercising a right. Kern County Residents Directory keeps little personal data, so a request normally concerns a contact message or technical log.

California government-record information is outside the CCPA definition of personal information in the relevant public-record context. A deletion request here cannot erase a deed, court filing, voter record, or other record held by a Kern County or California custodian. California’s free DROP service, launched in 2026, can send a verified deletion or no-sale request to more than 500 registered data brokers; Safe at Home offers a separate substitute-address and mail-forwarding program for qualifying participants. Use the California DROP information, Safe at Home program, or the Contact page for the correct route.

Policy Changes
